Andrew H. Brown | Moses Thuranira | USA | Kenya | 2023 | 82’
Filmed over four consecutive years during record low annual precipitation in Kenya,Between the Rainsis a feature collaboration with the Turkana-Ngaremara community that offers a traditional voice to the global conversation about climate change through the lens of cultural extinction. It is a coming-of-age story of Kolei, a shepherd boy whose name translates to “living amongst the goats.” Viewers are pressed deeper into Kolei’s inner conflict as he questions not only his own identity as a warrior –– a path that was chosen for him –– but also the erosion of the culture that has shaped every aspect of his life.
  • Trigger Warning: This film contains scenes of animal sacrifice and death. Viewer discretion is advised.
  • A discussion with Phil Andreasmoore will take place after this screening.
Theatr Mwldan Film Society present:
Land and Freedom Film Festival
The inaugural TMFS Festival Weekend explores the themes of ‘Land and Freedom’. The power of cinema to transport us across the globe and to bring us stories from afar is testament to the place storytelling has in our lives. The selected films range from Mesopotamia to Kenya; deep time from the perspective of a solitary tree; conflict over the very ground we stand on; and an anthology of international animation shorts.
Special guests will appear for post screening Q&As as well as post film discussions for audiences. We hope the films stimulate and provoke visions of what 'land and freedom' might look like.
• 'Land + Freedom' Film Festival Weekend Pass - £15
The Film Festival Weekend Pass (Feb 6–8) costs £15 per person, and gives you access to all five screenings over that weekend.
Without a Film Festival pass: Each screening costs £4 per person.
Members: TMFS Full Membership and Ticketsaver cards are accepted as usual.
