Peterloo (12A)

Mike Leigh | 2018 | UK | 154’

Following his acclaimed Mr Turner, Mike Leigh directs another period drama about the notorious 1819 Peterloo Massacre, in which a cavalry detachment charged on a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St Peter's Field in Manchester where a 60,000-strong crowd gathered to hear speeches demanding parliamentary reform. Starring Maxine Peake and Rory Kinnear, the film is something of a passion project for Leigh, who grew up in Salford.
