New Programme

Dear Friend,

Welcome to another packed Mwldan programme, which includes two festivals, great films, theatre, community shows and exhibtions.

The exciting news is that most of the events in this brochure will take place in the new auditorium, Mwldan 2. The days of uncomfortable seating are now finally over and we hope you will agree that the wait has been worth it! The new front of house facilities are also fully open (except the cafe) and the box office is now located in its new position. We hope you can come and have a look very soon.

Book now for Bartlbey by the superb Red Shift, one of my favourite theatre companies of all time and excitingly, the first ever live theatre performance on the new stage. Red Shift brought us Nicholas Nickleby two years ago and Bartleby promises to be every bit as good. It explores something that we would all love to do - rebel against the drudgery of work.

Other shows to book now for are the amazing sound of the Blazin’ Fiddles which will truly set Mwldan 2 on fire – eeks! - and the outstanding musicianship of Kroke, a klezmer trio who have been wowing audiences at Mwldan for a few years now.

The Purple Dragon Story Festival (12 – 21 March) holds some real treats. Opening with T Llew Jones, it is a ten day celebration of the story in all its forms, featuring story telling, book launches, children's story telling, panel discussions, the prestigious Purple Dragon Short Story Competition and theatre events including the brilliant Peter Searles in Hey Gringo! – a side-splittingly funny show about one man's travels in Latin America on 19th March.

The WOW! Wales One World Film Festival (27 – 31 March) holds some filmic gems including Osama, the first film out of Afghanistan since the removal of Taliban’s regime, and Amandla!, a documentary about the role music played in fighting Apartheid in South Africa with an all-star cast.

The cinema is packed with exciting films including Cold Mountain (starts February 13th), The Last Samurai (starts February 20th), Lost In Translation (starts February 28th), Big Fish (starts March 5th), Sylvia (starts March 12th) and so much more.

Community shows include Cwmni Drama Mochyn Ddu’s hilarious pantomime Sinderela in. A huge thank you is due to Cwmni Drama Llandudoch who are donating all proceeds from their performance of Rhedeg yn y Teulu on March 26th to Theatr Mwldan's Development Project Fundraising Appeal. So please come and support them and us!

Hope you find many events that are right up your street! We look forward to seeing you.

Best wishes,

Siobhan McGovern

Fundraising Appeal

A huge thank you to everyone who has given to Theatr Mwldan’s fundraising campaign. To date nearly £8,000 has been raised through the sponsor a seat scheme, donations and the front of house collection box. An amazing total of 160 seats have been sponsored so far and name-plates will be going on in mwldan 2 within the next two months.

Please help us reach our fundraising target of £50,000 – a tall order but we’re sure we can do it! You can sponsor a seat in either of the auditoria, and for a contribution of just £50 you can have a seat to call your own, dedicate it to someone special or acknowledge you business or organization. Please find enclosed a leaflet, kindly promoted by Scott Quinnell, Welsh rugby legend. Come and have a look at the seats in the new auditorium and we hope you’ ll feel compelled to sponsor one. Our target is to have every seat sponsored – so please help us reach that goal.

The collection box is still in the front of house – and, remember, every penny adds up!

Mwldan’s New Gallery Space: Oriel Mwldan

We are very proud to announce that Theatr Mwldan’s new gallery space, Oriel Mwldan, is opening on Saturday 28 February 2004. To celebrate this event, we'd like to invite you to an open event on that day, between the hours of 12 noon and 6pm, when you can view the gallery space and the first exhibition 'Homelands'.

Thanks to the extension and re-development of the theatre, we have created a designated visual arts exhibition space adjacent to the new auditorium that will continue to be a valuable platform for local artists and groups. It will, in addition, be able to receive touring exhibitions, creating an important facility for the West Wales region.

We are delighted that Oriel Mwldan has been chosen as the first venue for ‘Homelands’, an exhibition by Fibre Art Wales that will run from 28 February until 26 March. The exhibition features the work of thirteen textile artists inspired by their Welsh heritage and culture and innovatively explores the textile media in an evocative and imaginative way.

Oriel Mwldan would also like to take the opportunity to welcome Mary Lloyd Jones as its patron and look forward to a long and rewarding association.

For further details of the opening day please contact the box office.

Development Project News

By the time you read this, the new theatre, mwldan 2, should be in use and we hope you like it! The new foyer spaces are in operation, including new box office, administrative and tourist information facilties. There's a new bar too, and lots of room to enjoy a drink and a chat before or after a show. The new studio space, mwldan 3, should be operational by the end of February, and the fabulous new gallery space, Oriel Mwldan, will be officially opened on Saturday 28 February. Having completed Phase 1 of the theatre development, we are now into Phase 2, which involves the refurbishment of the old auditorium, mwldan 1 and the creation of a new kitchen and catering facility. We hope that Phase 2 will be completed in May 2004, and we are looking forward to a grand official opening of the completed Theatr Mwldan in summer 2004.

Essential Information for Customers

Car Parking - A reminder that some of the car park behind the theatre is now closed as work on the new car park continues. Please allow enough time to park when attending a performance. There is additional car parking available very near the theatre in the car park behind the Cardigan Guildhall and Canolfan Teifi – this is very convenient and only 100 metres walk from the theatre, so please consider using this alternative at busy times to avoid frustration! Thanks for your co-operation.
No Smoking Policy - Recognising the risks to general health and Theatr Mwldan’s desire to provide a comfortable and clean environment for all its customers, Theatr Mwldan is now a smoke-free facility. We would ask all visitors to Mwldan to refrain from smoking in any part of the building. Thank you for your support for this initiative.
