Dwelling Place

Saturday 7 July - Saturday 11 August 2007

I constantly refer to the landscape and natural world for colour, shapes, patterns, marks, lines and relationships. I am continually surprised by the ambiguities I see in the landscape. Often nothing seems what it appears to be and I love that uncertainty. I use my camera as a visual diary and record a wide variety of subjects especially marks, trails and traces made inadvertently by man and nature. They are the calling cards of our existence and these observations subconsciously weave their way into my paintings. I am always looking for ways to make marks that are what I call second hand, trying to free myself from the conscious act of mark making.

I have been photographing and collecting old birds nest for a number of years and I am delighted to have the opportunity to produce some new work using the birds nest as my point of departure.
