Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, Newcastle Emlyn
Willows High School, Cardiff
7 February - 3 March
Over a period of a week in July 2004, a group of year nine
and ten students from Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn in Newcastle Emlyn and Willows
High School in Cardiff, worked together on a project that was funded
by The Millennium Stadium Fund. The aim was to encourage people
to record their observations of contrasting environments in Wales.
The group, together with members of the teaching staff from the
school’s art department, spent time at the Pentre Ifan Centre
in Pembrokeshire and at the Roath Youth Centre in Cardiff. They
visited a variety of locations to gather information in the form
of drawing, painting and photography and accompanying them was Peter
Davis, one of Wales’ prominent photographers. The staff and
students developed their observations into artworks as shown in
this exhibition.
The exhibition at Oriel Mwldan is a preview of the Traws Cymru exhibition
that is to be held in Cardiff this spring. The show mostly features
the work of the adults that took part with some examples of the
students’ work in progress. None of the works are for sale
at the moment but will be available later in the year and interested
persons should contact Glan Morgan at Ysgol Gufun Emlyn.
