Karen Deeley Photograph - Seascape

Studies in Silver and Salt

Mon Oct 4 - Thur 28 Oct 2004

Artist’s Statement

Living in North Pembrokeshire, Karen has been inspired by hills and havens of West Wales and seeks out sculptural forms with an emphasis on composition and texture to capture in classic black and white. Each photograph is printed by hand in her studio in the Preseli hills using traditional darkroom techniques.

Having studied art and design, Karen specialised in costume making for theatres such as the Shakespeare’s Globe and continued an interest in photography by attending further courses at Gillespie’s, Edinburgh and Central St Martins, London.

Described as truly inspiring, her first exhibitions featured the characteristic marshland and coastline of her native East Anglia, enhanced by the North Sea light.

Following on from The Queens Hall, Narberth in April and Celtic Images Gallery this summer, Karen is pleased to be presenting a recent collection of studies at
Oriel Mwldan.

Perceptive images which capture details often hidden within the landscape.
