HOMELANDS
28th February to 25th March 2004
an exhibition of new work from members of the group
FIBRE.ART.WALES
‘Homelands’ is FIBRE.ART.WALES’ second major
touring exhibition. The exhibition will feature the work of contemporary
fibre artists who are living and working in Wales, or who are of
Welsh birth working outside Wales. Fourteen members will be showing
work in a broad range of fibre/textile media, including knit, collage,
weaving, stitch, embroidery, dying and painting, felt, paper, wire
and manipulation of materials in a variety of ways.
‘Homelands‘ is a follow-on to our first
touring exhibition ‘FIBRE VISIONS’ which received popular
and critical acclaim.
HOMELANDS; the title of the exhibition indicates the
theme. The research into ’HOMELANDS’ which inspired
the membership, is expansive and diverse, they include; natural
materials and resources familiar to Wales - such as slate, coal,
steel, wool and tin, developing and using these materials with new
techniques in individual ways, geographical explorations, Welsh
heritage and culture, personal inward experiences and invocation
of Celtic myth and tradition. Most of the exhibitors are exploring
the media of fibre itself, using it in a innovative and imaginative
way.
