Artists of West Wales in their
Studios
Photographic Portraits by Diane Walkey
Monday 9 January - Wednesday 15 February 2006
Personal Statement
Fine art photographer Diane Walkey presents a body of portraits
portraying West Wales artists in their studios. This fascinating
on-going project portrays well established artists such as John
Knapp-Fisher and Philip Sutton RA as well as younger artists such
as Sophie Mafanwy Wellan. Through this project, Diane seeks to archive
and document West Wales’ artistic scene while presenting a
unique personal statement and response to the subjects. All the
images in this show were taken on Fujicolor film stock with a Mamiya
medium format camera.
Diane Walkey’s work has been exhibited widely, including The
Royal Photographic Society and The Science Museum, London and she
was the winner of the 2003 Independent Energy Saving Trust National
Photography competition. In addition to photography, she is involved
in painting and in Art Education and tutors for the Open College
of the Arts (affiliated to the Open University).
Diane grew up on the Gower Peninsular near Swansea and has lived
in Pembrokeshire for the last fifteen years. She works in a number
of disciplines, painting and paper works included and regularly
exhibits with Cardigan Open Studios and Teifi Artists Group.
This project was assisted by Pembrokeshire County Council, Colab
UK and Creative Mwldan Creadigidol.
