Bjerger paints images from books, photographic snapshots and found material. Her paintings are an album of recognisable images, full of memories and traces of lives lived, remaining both anonymous and accessible through their collective familiarity. Once Bjerger selects an image she brings out certain elements by editing, emphasising or cropping. This serves to amplify these contradictions so that the final paintings might seem familiar yet the viewer remains dislocated from the narrative that the photograph might once have contained. Originally from Sweden, Bjerger is now based in London. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2001 she has exhibited in solo exhibitions at MW Projects and the Lithuanian Artist Association both in London. This is a touring exhibition originated by Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff.
