Angie Teiger
Retrospective
Monday 7 March - Wednesday 30 March 2005
Personal Statement
Travel and meditation have been responsible for much of the inspiration
behind my work over the last decade. I have made a number of journeys
to visit other cultures either by invitation to exhibit (Uzbekistan
1995, India and Japan 1997, Ourense, Galicia, Northern Spain 2003)
or by attending residencies (Fondacion Valparaiso, Mojacar, Andalucia,
Spain 2004).
Sometimes I go with a notion to explore my new surroundings and
sometimes I explore ideas and theories that I have read. During
my stay in Kerala where I exhibited in …… I explored
the ideas written by George Borrows the English writer and traveler
1803–81 in which he suggests the Welsh people originated in
Southern India.
In Uzbekistan the idea of Central Asia being the origin of the
Celtic Piaspora Westuads formed the incentive for an exhibition
at Oriel Mwldan in 1996 that toured to London.
In advance of my trip to Mojacar last year, I read that the Beaker
People (who are partially credited with the building the second
stage of Stonehenge) originated from the Iberian Penisular, located
on the southwestern tip of the European continent. Evidence of their
journey has been dug up in Stonehenge.
This retrospective exhibition showcases my work over a period of
thirty years. Paintings are displayed along side textile works that
were inspired by the spirit of my surroundings either in my studio
in Llangrannog, or during the research and my adventures abroad.
