ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The creative process for the development of my latest body of
work revolves around my personal exploration of familiar materials
from my environment.
This new body of work has developed out of ideas spanning the last
ten years and has also been fed by an Arts International trip to
Argentina in 2004 and my collaboration with poets, dance practitioners
and performance artists.
During that trip the interrelationship between people was a subject
of interest which has continued.
Within these mixed media constructions and assemblages and earlier
figurative work, sleep and dreams continue to be a source of inspiration.
New work consists mainly of highlighting the tensions caused by
juxtaposing states, such as perceptions of hard and soft, inside
and outside, attachment and detachment, dream and consciousness.
The use of the pillow and our relationship to it is a metaphor
for many aspects of our lives.
The work has also been influenced by my observation of the weathering
and decay.
