“RAFT” is a mixed media installation that transforms the exhibition space through the creation of an environment of large scale painting and objects. Originally created for Galeri, Caernarfon, Emrys Williams has re-configured this exhibition especially for Oriel Mwldan's space and the seaside town / community of Cardigan.

 The piece explores the metaphor of the artist's studio as an island, with reference to the “Six Words of Advice” given by the tenth-century Buddhist “Tilopa”. With influences drawn from photographs of Buddhist caves near the Gobi desert and Egyptian artefacts in the British Museum including the “Raft of the Medusa”, the installation reflects the transience and fragility of our world.
